Why do people ridicule Scotland, mainly Glasgow?

Why do people ridicule Scotland, mainly Glasgow?
I'm Brazilian and I can just say what I know.
I've ever talked to British people and when I talk about Scotland, mainly Glasgow, they began to ridicule it, mainly their accent. When I talk to them, the main thing they seem to show is that Scotland is a place like nobody would like to live or something.

I was on Uncyclopedia and I was reading an "article" about that. Indeed, their intention is to ridicule it to the extreme, but, in spite of that, the real stereotyped view is implicit.
