How can I get rid of ants in my kitchen?

Hello, hope I am in the right forum...

It's summer time and those little monsters have invaded my kitchen! I need to get rid of them! I am already trying as best as I can to make sure that no bread crums etc are lying around. So far I have only tried it with alcohol (spiritus). It helps for a while and then they come back. Does anybody have any household tricks at hand?
