The first American Troops to leave the shores of the USA left on 23 January 1942 in Task Force 6814 (with designations A - H) that left from New York and traveled down to the Panama Canal bound for (then) Australia. These American Army servicemen would meet up with the First Marine Division in Guadalcanal later but initially they prevented
