Good quality laminate is hard to scratch. I have 2 girls and laminate floors in their rooms and the family room. They play with all their toys, drag things around, barbie cars, and drop lots and lots of things over the 4 1/2 years that we have had them. Honestly we have 2 scratches. One was because we moved a piece of furniture that we did not put felt pads on (did I mention put felt pads on your furniture?) and the other was a climbing incident involving my now 4 year old, a wall unit shelf and a glass frame. Other than that, no issues. Luckily for us the 2 scratches we have are in concealed spots and when we are ready to switch out the planks it will be easy.
If you go to home depot etc they also sell a putty that you can match to the color of your laminate and fill in with that.
